I owe you a huge debt of gratitude for that. She said and followed him. They reached on a guava tree rich in leaves and fruit. He went to a secret hole in the trunk, pecked three times on the perimeter of it and joined her. Few minutes past a large green bird with red beak appeared. He looked around and came out walking gracefully. He had a red circle around his neck and shoulders too had crimson patches. They bowed as he came up to them and he greeted them pleasantly.
I wish you both a happy life. Tell me the truth what have you brought here? He asked.
O great chief of our race, a misfortune has befallen this poor friend of mine. Then he recounted her story and told him she wants to rescue her partner.
He pondered over the matter for a while and then addressed her; my forest mate; I have been in prolonged captivity of man twice. I am familiar with their language and will let you know how to deceive them. I have worked out a scheme for you as I have done for many others. Some of them stick to it and succeeded, others were weak and they failed. You will come across the good and evil men, avail from the former and stay away the latter. Remember, if you happened to have true love, then persistence and determination will be your weapons to cut the chains of your beloved. Now come here and I give you the details of plan.
She listened to him attentively, thanked and set off for her journey instantly.
On other hand, he was shut in the cage, feeling terrible. He wouldn't eat or drink in the beginning; stomachache pushed him to engulf the provisions. The child teased him by talking, poking and giggled at his being scared. He attempted to lift or break the cage by beating wings against iron bars. It did nothing but injured him badly. All endeavours of getting him salvation proved ineffective, which made him hopeless. Sometimes child fastened his legs and put him on shoulder. Unaware from the trick, he strived to dash into air which rendered in loss of his feathers, cut by child with scissors. Finally he gave up accepting it his fate and agreed to live as ordered, and started to comprehend the gibberish language of man. Days turned into weeks, he continued growing familiar with the temperament of men.
Recalling the road she went on crossing the, mountain, meadows, and villages. After couple of sojourn for food and water, eventually she reached at the rampart of city.
She cast a careful glance to examine the city so that she may possibly identify the house where incident had occurred. It was very hard to make out the house; therefore she followed the devised plan. Starting from one corner, she flew from house to house calling him as loud as her throat could allow. One, two, three and thus ten days passed without a hint but her determination never waived off. During the time she found a safe shelter for her and stayed there until the tenth day when she returned to the woods rather crestfallen.
Next morning, the neighbour saw her curled up and wailing again. He came up to her and asked, my friend I assume it didn't go all right. What’s the matter that you seem desolate?
She raised her head and informed him about the recent problem. After listening to her, he proposed a solution.
I have deduced that you feel insecure to lay eggs in city and in case you hatch eggs here, it would become impossible for you to recover your partner. Hmm! What I am going to suggest you requires more effort and devotion, for there is no other option at hand. That is you lay eggs here, so that in the period of day I may keep an eye on them for you while you are gone for him. Thus in the night after your returning you would be able to hatch eggs.
She thought for a while and said, I think if I ever will be able to thank you. She did as had been counselled and would leave the nest at daybreak and return at nightfall. Though it demanded more struggle and divided her attention, but nothing could make her lost hope. With time passed on, her prayers grew more imploring.
Eventually, Heavens answered her pleadings and endeavours proved productive. One day when sun had blown the trumpet to recall its troops of rays back and she was about to quit her research for day, she heard a feeble voice. Her heart throbbed at full blast and hair rose on neck. She tracked the voice and by calling him loudly, arrived at the house which she recognized at once. A cage was hanging in the corridor and there was he inside, restless and agitated. Both rejoiced at the sight of each and he warned her to be at safe distance. After shedding the tears of joy, both briefed each other about the miseries under which they have gone.
I knew that I will find and rescue you some day, she whispered to him.
O dear your sight gives me enough reason to live but….Alas! I must confess that everything I tried to get out of here resulted in vain. You must relinquish the idea of….
No, I won’t. We and our offspring are not doomed to be apart, she interrupted him and then told about the eggs and pleaded him to follow the plan. It brightened his eyes. He crammed the plan and promised not to be hopeless. Then she took leave and flapped the wings for return.
He remained true to his words and cooperated completely with child. He would take what is given to him, show interest in child. He learned their ways quickly, tried to understand the language. Occasionally he fluttered his wings to know whether they are grown and fly to the walls. When child seemed suspicious on him, he would come and sit on his shoulder. Thus, within days he won the trust of child. Sooner, having no doubt about his fidelity, the child, most of the time would keep him out of cage and didn't bother to prune his wings again. Meanwhile she visits him regularly and exchanges progresses.
